The President of the University of Kerbala Inaugurates the First Cultural Date Palm and Dates Festival
Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, President of the University of Kerbala, inaugurated the “Cultural Date Palm and Dates Festival,” organized by the College of Education for Pure Sciences. Held alongside the university’s first annual cultural festival, the event aims to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation and combating desertification.
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Holy Hussain Shrine, featured a variety of date products, plants, and derivatives, as well as a range of indoor and outdoor plants.
The festival promotes the culture of afforestation and highlights its importance in environmental balance by increasing green spaces through planting date palm saplings and ornamental plants. It also emphasizes the significance of Iraqi dates, enhancing their status as an essential agricultural and economic product.
Attendees included Professor Dr. Haider Muhammad Omran, Vice President of the University for Scientific Affairs; Professor Dr. Hameeda Aidan, Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences; Engineer Faiz Abu Al-Maali, Director of Fadak Farm; and several experts and specialists in the field of agriculture.
Professor Dr. Haider Muhammad Omran noted, “This festival reflects our commitment to advancing the agricultural sector and raising awareness of the economic and social importance of date palms and their products.”
