The Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi inaugurated the irradiation cell (GC220), the first peaceful applications of atomic energy in Iraq.
Dr. Al-Aboudi stressed that the operation of the (GC220) cell is the first strategic procedure after the pollution treatments implemented via national experts in Iraq.
His Excellency reviewed that this important radiation cell is involved in the medical fields of treating cancer, medical examinations, industrial fields and applications, sterilizing medical tools and food equipment, developing seeds and disposing of nuclear waste.
Dr. Al-Aboudi added that this scientific environment will be ready to receive specialized researchers and graduate students in Iraqi universities to analyze samples of specialized research in various fields.
His Excellency also reviewed the work of the irradiation cell (GC220), models of radioactive materials, their fields of use, radiation safety procedures followed, radiation protection methods and future development plans for radiation projects.
