University of Kerbala Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Road Accident Prevention
The College of Medicine at the University of Kerbala organized a scientific seminar on road accident prevention, coinciding with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Ali Abdul Redha Abu Tahi and Dr. Safa Mahmoud Abbas, aimed to shed light on the dangers of road accidents, which claim approximately 1.19 million lives annually and leave 20-50 million people with non-fatal injuries, many of which result in permanent disabilities.
It was highlighted during the seminar that road accidents in Iraq alone caused the death of over 5,500 people in 2022, most of whom were adolescents and young adults under the age of 29.
The seminar discussed global statistical losses, noting that one person dies in a traffic accident every 25 seconds worldwide.
In addition, the session explored key preventive measures to avoid road accidents and reviewed strategies to ensure traffic safety and reduce road-related fatalities.
