In the Ceremony Honoring Winners of Iraqi Science Day Awards, Minister of Higher Education Affirms Commitment to Enhancing and Developing Research, Global Publishing, and Graduate Programs

Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed the ministry’s continued commitment and efforts to strengthen and develop research paths, global publishing, and graduate programs.

This statement was made during his speech at the ceremony honoring the winners of Iraqi Science Day, attended by senior ministry officials, university presidents, the head of the Academic Syndicate, deans of colleges, and a large gathering of faculty members, researchers, and students. The minister emphasized that the focus on science and research has always been and remains the cornerstone of the Ministry of Higher Education’s performance and its institutions. It represents the core identity driving the work of Iraqi universities, their colleges, and specialized departments.

The Minister also highlighted the ministry’s success in internationalizing higher education, building common understanding between Iraqi universities and their international counterparts, exchanging scholarships, and attracting over 3,000 international students. He pointed out the return of international events to Baghdad, including the recent 46th session of the Arab Research Councils Union, hosted by the University of Baghdad.

Minister Al-Aboudi reiterated the ministry’s commitment to enhancing and developing research paths, global publishing, and graduate programs. He emphasized that these intensive efforts are key to improving the quality and performance of academic, educational, and research institutions, ultimately boosting the effectiveness of the teaching process.

The ceremony also featured a speech by Dr. Lubna Khamis Mahdi, Director-General of the Research and Development Department, who discussed the scientific outputs presented and the criteria for the awards. The ceremony concluded with Minister Al-Aboudi presenting the winners of the Iraqi Science Day awards, which included categories such as Best University, Outstanding Research Center, Distinguished Research Unit, Distinguished Scientific Journal, Outstanding University Library, Distinguished Research, Volunteer Group Encouragement Work, Distinguished Author or Translator, Outstanding Patents, Distinguished Graduation Project, and Outstanding Researcher.
