The University of Kerbala hosted a discussion seminar to address the new scientific promotion regulations project, which is set to be adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The seminar, organized by the branch of the Academic Syndicate in Kerbala in collaboration with the College of Law, was attended by the University President, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, along with his administrative and academic deputies, Professor Dr. Jassim Aidan Al-Mamouri and Professor Dr. Haider Mohammad Omaran. Also present were Dr. Munir Al-Daami, President of the Academic Syndicate branch, Dr. Firas Al-Muslimawi, a member of the Parliamentary Education Committee, as well as a number of deans, faculty members, and university staff.

During his intervention, Dr. Al-Muslimawi stated, “The project will undergo many amendments, including the exemption of humanities disciplines from the (h-index) indicator.” He also pointed out that “the new regulations will be postponed and will not come into effect at this time, contrary to what has been circulated by the media.”

He added that the Parliamentary Education Committee is moving forward with making the necessary amendments to the project to support the educational process and close the doors to commercial journals.

On his part, Dr. Haider Mohammad Omaran, the University’s Academic Deputy, explained, “Financial challenges are one of the most prominent issues facing faculty members, in addition to the lack of necessary laboratories that can be relied upon for research.”

Dr. Omaran emphasized the importance of enhancing the standing of local scientific journals, which would raise the university’s global ranking.
