University of Kerbala Organizes a Seminar on the Impact of Geopolitics and Regional Conflicts on Iraq
The Faculty of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Kerbala organized a scientific seminar on “Ottoman Iraq between Local Identity and Centralized Administration: The Impact of Geopolitics and Regional Conflicts,” presented by Dr. Zaid Kamil, Dr. Abbas Abdul Amir, Dr. Ali Kazem, Mr. Mustafa Maki, and Mr. Mohammed Ajil.
The seminar aimed to explore the role of geographical factors in the emergence of the Mamluk rule in Iraq, examine the role of the economy during that period, and analyze the political factors that paved the way for the Ottomans to control and occupy Iraq. Additionally, it discussed the role of religious factors in the Ottomans’ control over Iraq.
The seminar covered several key topics, including the Ottoman administrative structure and centralized control, the formation and diversity of local identity, the geopolitical significance and strategic importance of Iraq, regional conflicts and their impact on stability, as well as the economy, balancing central integration with local uniqueness.
