University of Kerbela Shines at the World Debating Championships… and its President Honors its Team for Qualifying for the Quarterfinals

University President Professor Sabah Wajid honored the university’s debating team after their outstanding achievement of qualifying for the quarterfinals in the second stage of the World University Debating Championships, organized by the International Academy for Leadership and Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The university president emphasized that this achievement represents a significant step towards strengthening Karbala University’s presence in scientific and intellectual competitions, noting that the university places great importance on developing students’ skills in dialogue and critical thinking.

He added, “We are proud of this team, which has proven that our students are capable of competing and innovating. We strive to support such initiatives that refine the character of university students and prepare them to lead society in the future.”

For her part, Dr. Ayser Ashour, Director of the Science and Technology Parks Department, explained that the team’s participation in this championship was part of the department’s strategy to support extracurricular activities that develop students’ abilities. She emphasized that this achievement reflects the teamwork and continuous training the team underwent.

The participating team included Ahmed Mushtaq from the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Hussein Sabah Farhan from the College of Law, and Muntadhar Nasr Hussein from the College of Education for Humanities.

It is worth noting that the University Debating Championship is one of the most prominent academic events aimed at promoting a culture of constructive dialogue among university students and developing their critical thinking and analytical skills, with broad participation from various educational institutions.
