University of Kerbala Organizes a Scientific Symposium to Celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan

The College of Education for Humanities at University of Kerbala organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Holy Month of Ramadan: A Linguistic, Literary, and Cultural Approach.” The symposium was moderated by Dr. Abbas Ubaid Al-Amiri, and featured lectures by Dr. Khalid Al-Sayyab, Dr. Alia Nusrat, and Dr. Ali Hakim.

The symposium highlighted lexical and linguistic issues related to the holy month, explaining their connotations and stylistic structures, which possess a miraculous quality. It also addressed the spiritual and social impacts of fasting as mentioned in numerous verses of the Holy Quran.

Furthermore, the symposium included an examination of the Orientalist perspective on Ramadan rituals among Muslims. This was achieved through an analysis of travelogues written by foreign travelers who visited several Eastern countries, including the holy city of Kerbala, and their recorded observations and impressions of the Ramadan atmosphere there.
