Kufa University’s Master’s Dissertation: On Conducting

College of Pharmacy, University of Kufa discussed a master dissertation on conducting a chemical manufacturing and studying the molecular docking of adding at position 5 of benzofuran-2-carboxamide containing 1,3,4-thiadiazole as anti-cancer substances by the postgraduate student, Mr. Ali Joain Saqar.

The dissertation aimed at designing new compounds as inhibitors of Bcl-2 proteins that would be more effective for treating breast cancer.

The dissertation demonstrated how to conduct the chemical reactions necessary to manufacture the final compounds (C1, C2, C3, F1, F2, F3) and conduct the necessary tests to ensure their formation and purity, as well as conducting biological examination of these compounds on breast cancer cells and on healthy cells ensuring their effectiveness and the extent of their selection of cells to determine its toxicity.

The dissertation recommended conducting additional tests on the compounds, such as HPLC, MicroARRAY and X-ray, as well as selecting cancer cells other than breast cancer cells.

The dissertation highlighted that the newly designed C1 and F1 benzofuran derivatives may be promising candidates for treating breast cancer based on their biological toxicity, selectivity index and low S-score.
