Today, Tuesday, 5/30/2023, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis tagged:

(The effect of a genetic polymorphism (GATM) on the incidence of myopathy in patients treated with atorvastatin in Karbala governorate) presented by the student (Mohammed Shahid Sajit)

As part of the requirements for obtaining a Master’s degree in Pharmaceuticals and Toxicology

The thesis included a cross-sectional study on 150 male and female participants ranging in age from 28-65 years and receiving a daily oral dose of 40 mg of atorvastatin (lipid-lowering treatment) for at least one month. thyroid disease, where he used the allele-specific polymerase chain reaction technique to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (GATMrs9806699G> A,C,T).

The study aimed to find out the relationship between genetic polymorphisms

,GATMrs9806699G>A,C,T

and statin-related myopathy in patients taking the drug 40 mg daily

The study concluded that rs9806699 of the GATM gene is not associated with statin-related muscle moderation, but it cannot be ruled out as one of the factors contributing to myopathy due to the significant proportion of the type A allele in patients with SRM more than the type G allele with the significant increase in the mean level of creatine kinase enzyme.Media of Pharmacy College
